It's a 300-page book, easily read over two weekends. First, it's not exactly 300 pages dedicated to the lives of both men. I would sum it up to say that about a third of the book discusses their accomplishments (some criticisms are pretty negative but truthful), and a third of the book sums up the affect on law, progress, and the republic over the next hundred years. Napolitano does a good job of summary over the actions of both men. If you wanted a book that really goes into fine detail about their lives....well.....this isn't the book. I think in the end, one gets the feeling that neither were Republican or Democrat, and both served as some tool for rapid change to the American society and government. For a third-year college student looking at a political career, you might want to pick this book up and review for your path in life. Excellent research and well written. Worth reading.

Judge Napolitano recounts numerous historical recounts of both actions and objectives of our two first Progressive Presidents, in this book, along with references to the many Federal Court decisions they precipitated ushering-in the progressive era. The judge makes it clear from the onset of the book, this is a dissertation of his personal Libertarian point of view and not simply a historical review. However, in reading Theodore and Woodrow one can't help but be amazed how the initial intent of the Founding Fathers, and subsequently the Constitution have been undermined and perverted by the progressive movement in America over the last one hundred years. Understanding this history sheds new light on the actions of our Federal Government today, as well as where they intend taking the country in the future. Ultimately its up to the reader to decide if their Orwellian goals represent "progress" or repression of the American spirit.
This book is a must-read for every American, and should be an absolute necessity for every student from junior high school, high school and universities. If we don't understand how we got to the position we are in, we will not be able to change it and we will continue the slide to socialism. Well done, Judge!
I bought the CD, and while the narrator is challenged on some basic pronunciation, the content is good, the structure is thought provoking, and the information it contains will bring you through the last 100+ years of progressive changes to the constitution, and the impacts that they had - both intended and unintended - on our national government.

The thesis of Wilson and Roosevelt as perhaps two of the most damaging presidents in US history is convincingly made with both legal and social examples and showing the impacts of these policies 100 years on.

A great listen, and a must listen for the political scientist or activist.
Powerful commentary on why our government is so very dysfunctional (or perhaps super-functional in a negative way) today. While I admire much about Theodore Roosevelt, there is little doubt, after reading this, that he sought to vastly increase the power of the federal government during his time as a progressive president. Woodrow Wilson, though frustrated from some of his desired accomplishments, probably caused World War II with his World War I peace plan and much of the globalism that has made nationalism a dirty word in today's world. He's smart, articulate, and mostly right!
Napolitano cuts to the quick the two most destructive presidents in our history T. Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. It was early in the 1900's when the ideas of science and psychology filled the heads of the ruling elitists supporting their doctrine that the average person was to be ruled and manipulated, rather than to be backbone of a free republic. The Progressive Socialists sought, and have succeeded, in changing society so that a small number of elitists control and determine the fates of us all. From the public school system, WWI, crony capitalism, quasi government agencies. These two jokers would do anything to move to a soviet style planned economy. Although they are hailed as heroic presidents in the indoctrination system of the public schools, these two see the average citizen as a lump of flesh to be used in their power schemes. And how do they do it? They lie, start wars, make secret deals, set up government infrastructure. The same old M.O. This is a must read. It covers a range of topics that also can be explored at greater depth like - public education (see "NEA, Trojan Horse in American Education") and WWI see "Propaganda," and "Falsehood in War." The endless wars start with the Social Progressives and haven't stopped yet.

The author examines different aspects of the Progressive movement, and each chapter looks at a different way that the unintended consequences of Progressivism has had deleterious effects on our individual liberty.
The book is well organized, and the author divides a complex political movement into chapters, each of which look at a different way the movement has affected individuals and the nation. As a result of this organization, readability and enjoyment is enhanced. Each chapter has a "Conclusion" section that summarizes the points put forth in the chapter. Each facet of the movement is tied to one or both (most often both) of these very interesting figures in American history.
I found the book to be very compelling....very hard to put down! I highly recommend the book to not only anyone interested in American History, but anyone who is concerned about the direction our country is heading today. This book clearly shows HOW we got to where we are today. It shows how the federal government, due in large part to the actions of these two powerful presidents, went from its constitutionally defined enumerated powers to having UNLIMITED power over our daily lives!
